Route guide

Jungut Batu or Mushroom Bay: where will I land?

Most Sanur boats land at Jungut Batu, the main village on Lembongan's north-west coast, with guesthouses, dive shops, warungs and the surf breaks off the reef. Some boats use Mushroom Bay on the south-west side, a calm, sheltered bay closer to Dream Beach, Devil's Tear and the south-side resorts. The two are about 15 minutes apart by road. Before you book, check which side your hotel is on: the timetable above shows the arrival harbour for every departure, and choosing the right landing saves a bumpy truck ride with your luggage. If you plan to visit Nusa Ceningan, both landings are a short ride from the Yellow Bridge, which connects the two islands. If you are not sure, ask your hotel which landing is closer; most will meet your boat if you send them the arrival time and harbour.

Will my feet get wet?

Yes, plan on it. Many boats at Sanur board from the beach, and Jungut Batu has no jetty, so you step off the boat into knee-deep water. Mushroom Bay is a shallow beach landing too, usually calmer. Wear shorts or a skirt you can lift, sandals or reef shoes, and keep your phone, passport and cash in a dry bag or a small bag you carry above the waterline. Porters carry suitcases between the boat and the beach, and the crew passes smaller bags hand to hand. On rougher days, waves at the shoreline can be stronger than they look, so listen to the crew and wait for their signal before stepping down. Back on the sand, a quick rinse at your hotel is all you need.

How do I get from the beach to my hotel?

Lembongan is small, but the roads are hilly and the beach is sandy, so few people walk with suitcases. Porters at Jungut Batu load bags onto open-back taxi trucks that take you to most hotels for about IDR 50,000 to 100,000 per person, depending on the distance. Many hotels will send a driver to meet your boat if you message them your arrival time and harbour in advance. Scooters are the usual way to get around once you have checked in, and many hotels rent them by the day. If you are heading to Nusa Ceningan, ask the driver to take you across the Yellow Bridge, which is open to scooters and pedestrians. Keep small notes ready for the porters and the truck, as change can be scarce on the beach, and agree the price before your bags go on board.

Which fees do I pay on Lembongan?

Foreign visitors pay the Klungkung tourism-area fee of IDR 25,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child for Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida. It is cashless only, by card or QR code, and is collected on arrival or paid online beforehand; keep the receipt on your phone in case you are asked again when moving between the islands. If you came to Bali from abroad, you also need the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000, paid once per entry at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. We are not aware of a harbour fee at Sanur, but check locally. Bring some cash for trucks, scooters and warungs, as Lembongan has only a few ATMs and they can run out at weekends. None of these fees are added to your boat ticket, and the boat operators do not collect them: you pay the government or the harbour directly.

The Badung Strait between Bali and the Nusa islands is usually calmest from March to May and in October and November. In July and August the south-east trade winds bring bigger swell, so crossings can be bumpy and the harbour master sometimes pauses sailings. Morning boats are usually smoother than afternoon ones. Sanur to Nusa Lembongan: questions travellers ask

How long is the fast boat from Sanur to Nusa Penida?

About 40 minutes (30–45 depending on the operator and the sea). Sanur to Nusa Lembongan is about 35 minutes. Padang Bai to Gili Trawangan takes about 1.5 hours, and Sanur or Serangan to the Gilis 2¼–3½ hours with stops.

Will my feet get wet when boarding at Sanur?

Probably. Sanur's new harbour (opened 2022) has a jetty, but many Penida and Lembongan boats still load from the beach depending on the operator and the tide. Expect to wade ankle- to knee-deep: wear shorts and sandals and keep your phone in a dry bag. Jungut Batu (Lembongan) and Gili Air are beach landings too. Serangan uses a jetty.

What time should I check in?

Be at your operator's counter 30–45 minutes before departure with your QR e-ticket and passport. If you added hotel pickup, we send the exact pickup time on WhatsApp the evening before.

How much luggage can I bring?

Usually one bag up to 20–25 kg plus a small hand bag per passenger. Surfboards, bikes, dive gear or extra bags may cost extra — add them as an extra when booking. Porters load bags into the hold or onto the roof, so keep your passport, phone and valuables with you.

What happens if my boat is cancelled because of weather?

If the harbour master or the operator cancels a sailing, we move you to the next available departure free of charge or give you a full refund — your choice. We contact you on WhatsApp as soon as we know.

Are island taxes and harbour fees included in the ticket price?

No — they are paid locally, not to us. Budget for the Bali tourist levy IDR 150,000 (pay at lovebali.baliprov.go.id), the Nusa Penida / Lembongan island fee IDR 25,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child (cashless), about IDR 25,000 per major Penida attraction, and harbour fees of about IDR 10,000–20,000 in cash at Padang Bai, the Gilis and Bangsal.

Which harbour on Nusa Penida will I arrive at?

Most Sanur boats arrive at Banjar Nyuh on the north-west coast — closest to Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong and Crystal Bay. Some arrive at Buyuk on the north-east coast, better for Diamond Beach and Atuh. Every result shows the arrival harbour. Penida roads are slow: allow 1–1.5 hours to the far side.

Can I combine my fast boat with a snorkel trip?

Yes. On Nusa Penida trips you can add our own 4-spot snorkel trip (Manta Point, Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay, Wall Point) as an extra. The booking page checks that it fits between your boats. The marine park fee is shown before you pay.
